Mystic Journey, who is being aimed at the $1 million Australian Guineas in Melbourne on March 2, galloped between races at Mowbray on Wednesday night.
She finished on terms with stablemate Five Star Gal who is in another of next week’s feature races, the $50,000 Thousand Guineas.
Trainer Adam Trinder and jockey Anthony Darmanin were both happy with Mystic Journey’s work.
“She had a really good night out – it was beneficial to be able to gallop her on a nice bit of grass,” Trinder said.
“Taking her away from home will be good stimulation for her and settle her down.
“She’ll kick off next week then have another run three weeks later before tackling the Australian Guineas three weeks after that.
“At this stage, it looks like she’s on track.”
WEIR RETURNING
Leading Victorian trainer Darren Weir has nominated two horses for next Wednesday’s $100,000 Launceston Guineas (2100m).
Yulong September and Yulong August are both raced by Yulong Investments, a Chinese-owned company that is rapidly becoming a major player in the Australian thoroughbred industry.
Weir has a good opinion of Yulong September whose three starts have been on metropolitan tracks and include a debut win at Sandown.
Yulong August has raced seven times and was a Warrnambool 1700m maiden winner 18 days ago.
The Launceston Guineas is the last major lead-up to the $150,000 Tasmanian Derby at Elwick on February 8.
The race has had several name changes over the years and was known as the Hobart Guineas until this year’s change of venue.
It has been won by interstate horses for the past two years – Northwest Passage trained by Gai Waterhouse in 2017 and Wolfendale trained by Weir in 2018.
SMALL DEBUTANTE
Only four pacers will contest the $15,000 Debutante Stakes at Mowbray on Friday night.
Scottsdale trainer Kent Rattray, who won last year with Sunny Sanz, has two of the runners including favourite Rockandahardplace.
The time-honoured two-year-old race has been won by some quality horses during its 55-year history, none greater than inaugural winner Golden Alley.
This week’s meeting also features three heats of the Harry Holgate Memorial which has a $12,000 final on February 10.
Promising four-year-olds Mahksman and Beachboy Butch clash in the final heat.
