Mark Craig Mining Ltd of Gympie, has applied to the West Coast Council for a permit to build a 12 bay caravan park on land at 1589 Henty Road, just south of the Badger River Reserve.
The proposed park is on a 19.87 hectare lot, which is owned by Mark Craig Mining.
The land is being used as rural resource, and there are several buildings and sheds on the property.
The proposal is to demolish at least three sheds around the existing house on the site, and renovate the dwelling into a two storey caravan park manager’s residence.
The park would take up to 12 caravans in 10 square metre bays, and would offer an amenity block which would be built as part of the project.
Under the West Coast Interim Planning Scheme, the use would be visitor accommodation for tourists and recreational use.
The application said the development would be on the cleared section of the site so it would not be disturbing any forest or habitats, and would still be able to take advantage of the scenery.
The site is on the 9 metre land contour.
The amenity block would have good access to Henty Road, as the project aims to build a new internal access road off the rural cross over which currently leads to the area off Henty Road.
The refurbished home would be less than 8.5 metres in height, but it would remain a two storeyed dwelling, with a total area of 201.4 metres including the verandah.
It includes four bedrooms, a large downstairs rumpus room, an office and a covered verandah on the second storey.
The park amenities block would be 52.38 square metres, and the covered area would take it to 128 square metres.
The site has no access to water, stormwater or sewage reticulation, but it has phone and electricity services.
Stormwater would flow through on-site tanks with the overflow going into a soakage area. Sewage would be treated on-site in an existing treatment system.
Water storage would include a 10,000 litre tank for firefighting and 20,000 litres for the amenity block.
Submissions close at the West Coast Council on January 7, 2019.
