It’s a great thing for us we need those funds to help people who are in dire straits and a lot of unfortunate people around this time
- Don Jones
Society chief executive John Stuart applied for the grant after a volunteer suggested Westpac consider an application from them.
“We applied to the submission and a couple of months went by and then I got a notification that we had received $10,000,” Mr Stuart said.
He said it was wonderful to receive the grant, which will be applied to helping those struggling in the community over the holidays.
Benevolent Society chairman Don Jones said receiving the grant was an unbelievable help to the charity heading into the Christmas-New Year period.
“It’s a great thing for us we need those funds to help people who are in dire straits and a lot of unfortunate people around this time,” Mr Jones said.
“The funds certainly help us provide emergency food for them and things of that nature.”
Westpac’s Kara Rowling said the Launceston branch has a proud history of supporting the charity and that it was close to their hearts.
