When Tasmania Fire Service arrived to a deliberate structure fire about 11pm on Wednesday, flames were coming out the window.
Within about 10 minutes, firefighters had the scene under control.
The fire occurred on Mayfield Street at Mayfield.
It caused about $300,000 damage.
Leading firefighter Adrian Adams said three crews arrived to the fire from Launceston and Rocherlea stations.
“When they arrived the house was well alight,” he said. “The structure has been smoke damaged throughout the house. The fire damage is contained to one room.”
No one was home at the time of the fire, but Tasmania Fire Service were unaware of that.
“So it was treated like there was somebody inside,” Leading fire fighter Adams said.
“Any structure fire we go to posses massive concerns to firefighter safety and occupant safety, so that needs to be taken very seriously, but crews did a great job.”
Tasmania Police Acting Inspector Craig Fox said police are investigating.
“At the moment it is still very early stages in that investigation. We treat all fires like this suspicious until we can prove otherwise,” he said.
