Site preparation work is the first stage in Stay Tasmania’s 86-bed hotel development in Cimitiere Street, Hotel Verge project manager Sam Tucker said.
“Works are finally underway. We started [on Monday] with site establishment work,” Mr Tucker said.
The hotel, which is being constructed on part of the former City of Launceston council car park, is expected to be completed in early 2020, he said.
Stay Tasmania managing director Lyndon Jago said he was pleased to see fencing erected around the site.
“Launceston is continuing to grow as a preferred destination, and we hope Hotel Verge will add significantly to the available quality accommodation product, while providing employment opportunities for the city,” Mr Jago said.
The hotel’s design has been shaped with public feedback in mind, he said.
