The ladies from the North East Golf Club of Moorina celebrated victory in the Barclay Shield at Ulverstone Golf Club on Monday.

Diane Rattray, Tania Thompson, Lyn Mullins and Colleen Krushka teamed well to return a nett score of 151 as did the Thirlstane team which consisted of Liz Sumpton, Glenda MacDonald, Pat Timmerman and Wendy Richardson.
Moorina, however, won the title by one stroke in a countback improving on their result last year when the same team placed third behind Prospect Vale.
The Golf Tasmania event sees each club represented by two foursome teams with the aggregate nett score to count.
Northern and North East teams have dominated this event in recent years with Scamander River winning in 2017.
In third place this year were Llanherne followed by Claremont and Launceston who tied for fifth place with a team comprising Jenny Winspear, Joan Higgin, Kate Bush and Pip Leedham.
Mowbray tied for seventh place and their players were Chris Barlow, Olivia Griffiths, Cheryl Richards and Dot Davey.
Victorian bid
Best of luck to Tasmanian representatives in this week’s Victorian Junior Championships being played at Moonah Links Golf Club.
Ronan Filgate, of Prospect Vale, Jack Lakin, of Wynyard, Hallie Maeburn, of Royal Hobart, and Alexandra Hansen, of Riverside, are competing in the event.
MyGolf tees off
Northern Golf is conducting the first of its MyGolf Junior League at Prospect Vale on Monday, October 1.
This is the first of a series with events on October 4, 5 and 12 starting at 9am.
Riverside, Mowbray, Launceston and Prospect Vale are fielding teams.
The series is being run in conjunction with the first of the school holiday tournaments at the same venues.
All junior golfers and beginners are invited to attend.
Student test
A further reminder for the Northern Boys and Girls Student Championships to be played at Mowbray on Friday, October 5.
Along with the usual age group events the tournament is being used as a selection event for the Tasmanian 15 years and under team to travel to Sydney to play in the Jack Newton National Final at the Coast Golf Club.
Ulvy masters
A reminder the Ulverstone Junior Masters is on Monday, October 8, beginning at 9.30am.
Bicheno dates
Bicheno Golf Club has posted its November tournament entry forms opening with a women’s stroke on Friday, November 9, followed by men’s stroke on Saturday, November 10, and Canadian Foursomes on Sunday, November 11.
Business meeting
The Tasmanian Business Women’s Championship is to be held at Wynyard on Sunday, October 14, and the SMGA Southern Open is at Tasmania Golf Club on Sunday, October 28.
Rivers flow
Moorina Golf Club will host the Moorina Rivers Festival stableford event on Friday, October 19.

Other Tasmanian events in October include the Southern Country Junior Championship at Colebrook Golf Club on October 2.
The Royal Hobart Cup will be contested on October 14 with the Southern Open at Tasmania Golf Club following on October 28.
