The star recruits behind Launceston City’s brave push for a maiden NPL Tasmania title have not been forgotten. Three one-time Devonport imports and a favourite from Northern Rangers were named in the NPL Tasmania team of the year, coached by Strikers boss Chris Gallo. Canadian goalkeeper Niko Giantsopoulos was given the nod at the back of the pitch. He conceded 32 goals in 21 matches – the equal second least of the NPL Tasmania season – and saved penalties three straight weeks for City. American teammate Tyler Fischer was named up front on the right wing. Fischer scored 19 times to finish behind Striker Brayden Mann (33 goals) and Zebra Matthew Sanders (25) in the race for the golden boot. City captain Daniel Syson’s leadership was recognised with a place on the bench. The Englishman showed his attacking flair in the midfield this year, chalking up 12 assists with his four goals. Harry Thannhauser has farewelled the state after a decade playing at Rangers as a NPL Tasmania substitute. The 21-year-old midfield talent, who will relocate next year to Melbourne for university, had also polled 13 votes in the Mitsubishi Medal. While you’re with us, learn about our digital subscription
