The Northern Suburb Community Centre’s Mens Bizz group had been operating out of two shipping containers for years.
NSCC general manager Denise Delphin said once built, the new shed aimed to further the development of a safe and secure, healthy, active, and safe community.
On Friday, Ms Delphin and the Mens Bizz group, alongside supporters, funders, and the board went the view the progress of the shed. This included Launceston mayor Albert van Zetten, alderman Hugh McKenzie, and independent Windermere MLC Ivan Dean.
“They’ve got the slabs down, they’re putting the purlins up, and the roof is about to go up,” she said.
Funding from the project was secured from the Department of State Growth and the City of Launceston.
Support was also given by the City of Launceston in the lease of the land, and by the Cape Hope Foundation.
Mayor van Zetten said the council recognised what an enormous positive impact these kinds of community facilities could provide.
"The Men's Bizz group has been operating out of two shipping containers and the Rocherlea Hall for more than a decade, and it [had] grown to the point where it became necessary to expand,” he said.
"This is a testament to the people who have been involved in the group over the years, and we're thrilled to see work underway on a modern facility which we hope will serve the community for decades to come."
