Ms Anderson of Mayberry, near Mole Creek, manages the breeding program for her family’s beef herd, which produces weaners for Cape Grim Beef.
She balances cattle management with a full-time position as a clinical psychologist and also established Cir-Ponds Gelbvieh and Murray Grey Stud with her brother, is the Australian Gelbvieh Association vice president and a coordinator for Gelbvieh Youth.
“I am passionate about the need for farmers to tell their stories and educate consumers about food provenance and production, and see technology and research as playing a major role in this,” Ms Anderson said.
The Cattle Council of Australia named Ms Anderson as one of seven state finalists for the Rising Beef Industry Champion initiative.
The program aims to empower and support young, passionate members of the Australian beef industry by developing their skills as beef industry leaders, Cattle Council chief executive Margo Andrae said.
“It’s critical that we provide young people who have a passion for the beef industry with an opportunity to be directly involved in the decision-making that will affect their futures and the future of their industry,” Ms Andrae said.
NAB Agribusiness customer executive Neil Findlay said the bank enjoyed supporting the Rising Champions program, which is now in its ninth year.
“We’re firm believers in the importance of providing opportunities for young people in agribusiness, and I’m proud of our long-term support of the Rising Champions program,” Mr Findlay said.
“The quality of the candidates this program attracts is high, and it’s encouraging to see that the future of our beef industry is in the hands of such motivated and passionate young people.”
State finalists attend a four-day program in Canberra later this month, where they will network with staff from the federal Agriculture and Water Resources department.
They will also tour and meet politicians at Parliament House, learn communication techniques, develop their leadership skills and participate in Cattle Council consultative committee meetings.
The 2019 NAB Rising Champion winner will be announced at the Cattle Council NAB Agribusiness Gala Dinner in Canberra on August 15 and will attend the 2019 International Beef Alliance Conference.
