Gourmet Oil Australia, which trades as Hagen Oil, proposes to produce a maximum of 2900 tonnes of oil product annually at 8 Venture Court, Invermay.
The site currently is a vacant lot.
It proposes to use an enclosed shed, with a bunded floor, to run the business. The shed floor is to be divided into three separately bunded areas, each with a blind sump. These areas are a vehicle loading bay, a processing area and a storage area.
The facility would process waste oil and related products that are collected by tankers and delivered to the site. The products will be separated, recycled and packaged for re-sale or disposal.
The proposal was passed by the Environment Protection Agency, if the conditions are approved by the City of Launceston council.
The business currently trades in Murphy Street at Invermay.
Relocating to site would “better accommodate” the operational and space requirements for the business, the development application said.
“The alternative is to leave the facility at its current location which is undesirable from operational and environment perspectives,” it said.
“There is insufficient land area at the current site and some processes and storage are located in the open where they are exposed to the elements.
“The use proposed requires an industrial location and the proposed location is appropriately zoned and located near uses that will not impacted by the operations.”
About 20 trucks will be used to deliver oil to the site, with 10 employees to be at the site throughout the day.
The business will run from 7am until 5pm on weekdays.
The application said the site was previously used by Sainty’s Coaches to store its buses.
No dangerous goods will be processed at the site.
The site is located near the Grammar sporting fields.
The application will be open for comment until Wednesday, August 8.
