The four premiership points kept Spreyton two games and percentage clear of their nearest rival Sheffield, who despite their 31-point win over West Ulverstone, has next weekend’s bye and Spreyton has a winnable match against Rosebery Toorak in a fortnight.
Unbeaten ladder leader Forth made short work of Rosebery Toorak, on the West Coast, when Nicholas Veal’s seven goals, Claye Symmons’ five and a best-on-ground game from Glynn Llewelyn, brought the Hawks undone, 24.13 (157) to 0.0 (0).
And Wesley Vale is still in the hunt for the minor premiership after accounting for East Ulverstone by 104 points.
Although the Kangaroos trail Forth by two games and percentage, they still have three matches to play, including a home game against Rosebery Toorak, whereas Forth has the bye in the penultimate round.
Despite their loss, it would take a calamity to dislodge East Ulverstone from next month’s elimination final with a couple of winnable games on the horizon.
For a while in the third quarter the Crows were in control, before Wesley Vale put the result beyond doubt with a dominant final term, kicking 10 unanswered goals, a figure matched by Tristan Weeks in his match-winning role.
