For the first time Launceston library hosted sea creatures from Beauty Point’s Seahorse World, as part of its school holiday program.
Six seahorses along with a collection of preserved marine life including pufferfish and a hermit crab, were put on show for an afternoon of fun and education.
Seahorse World managing director Craig Hawkins said it was important to teach children about the role of marine life.
In other news:
“The kids seem to get a real thrill out of seeing and even being able to touch the different animals,” he said.
“It is also a vital part of educating children, but also adults, about the impact they are having on our marine systems. The Tamar is home to all of these incredible creatures.
“It is a wonderful asset and it is really important to take care of it.”
Launceston library customer service officer Deborah Wise said the children had been “very enthusiastic” about the program.
