Led by a Courtney Webb masterclass, the reigning premiers won 20.12 (132) to 0.0 (0) at Wivenhoe Showgrounds with the Carlton midfielder finishing her afternoon with 11 goals.
But for Gibbins this was a game that delivered more than just the four points and a nice percentage boost.
“There were a few things internally that we have gone away from in the last couple of weeks, a few structure setups and a few forward-line things that we executed today,’’ Gibbins said.
“She (Webb) obviously has an x-factor about her, and she had something like four assists as well and was good with her forward line tackles, so it wasn’t just a selfish game, but she did the team things as well.”
Gibbins thanked the “fill-in” players for the day from Rocherlea and Meander Valley, Charlotte How, Marlia Richardson Caitlyn Webster and Tiffany Whitney.
As well as Webb, Amy Halaby, Angela Dickson, Abbey Green, Webster and Meg Radford all played strong games. Burnie was best served by Kaytlyn Johnson, Tegan Byard, Courtney Chandler, Shaeli Rodman, Emily Doig and Kaylah Keogh
The third-placed Blues have the bye next round before hosting the Tigers.
Sunday’s other match saw Glenorchy defeat the Tigers 12.17 (89) to 2.2 (14).
