It’s difficult to imagine a 20-year-old winning any kind of senior award, but such is the case for Carlton Heres.

The Harcourts buying agent took out the Real Estate Institute of Tasmania Senior Auctioneering Competition in Hobart last week.
More than 100 REIT members watched four competitors from around the state battle it out for the prestigious award.
Mr Heres said it was a matter of practice makes perfect.
“I’ve been doing a lot more auctions recently, including a number of charity auctions, which has helped,” he said.
“It’s never the same thing twice, but you do get used to them.
“The competition gave me the opportunity to upskill and receive feedback, which I really enjoyed.”
Mr Heres may have only been in the real estate industry for 18 months, but he is no stranger to competitive auctioneering.
He managed to win the REIT Schools Auction Championship in his last year of high school, before triumphing in the Australasian Schools Auctioneering Championship in Alice Springs.
His skill with the hammer will now take him to New Zealand for the Australasian Auctioneering Competition in October.
Mr Heres said he was excited to be able to represent Tasmania on the international stage.
“It will be a good experience to be around some of the best auctioneers in the country,” he said.
“Hopefully, I will be able to learn from them.”
