Tasmania has signed up to the national partnership agreement, the Skilling Australians Fund, and will receive about $31.5 million to assist with VET training.
Education Minister Jeremy Rockliff described it as ‘a positive step’.

“The $31.5 million provided through the national partnership will assist the Tasmanian Government to support employment in growing industry sectors,” he said.
“The new national partnership is solely focused on delivering training outcomes for Tasmanian learners and employers.”
Secure funding for the VET sector has been an integral part of The Examiner’s Pick up the Tools campaign.
Pick up the Tools aimed at investigating the role of VET in Tasmania, and bolstering funds directed at public education provider TasTAFE.
Federal Assistant Minister for Vocational Education and Skills Karen Andrews said the partnership would ensure Tasmania has skilled workers for the future.
“Tasmania has faced similar declines to what we have seen nation-wide in apprentice and trainee numbers, dating back to 2012 but the fund will help to turn that all around,” she said.
