The reinstatement of the skyshaft and mine yard is 95 per cent complete, the West Tamar Council say.
The cage, that the two trapped miners – Brant Webb and Todd Russel – famously walked out of, has been placed back in the yard.
Museum exhibits have also been returned their original positions in the mine yard.
In October, 2016 there were fears a 35 metre-wide sinkhole would open if no action was taken. The iconic headframe and skyshaft at the site was moving and ended up touching.
It is believed the sinkhole appeared after the June floods. In December the same year, the council started filling the hole.
But by August 2017, the problem was not still not close to being resolved, with the council saying works “weren’t progressing”.
However, the next month progress was “back on track”. About 4000 tonnes of coarse sand was poured down the shaft
More than $1.5 million has been spent trying to repair the iconic site through federal and state grants, and council funds.
