A ridge to the north of the state combined with a cold front approaching from the southwest are directing a northwesterly flow over Tasmania.

Rain is predicted for the north and west on Wednesday afternoon with hail, snow up to 900 metres and possible thunderstorms also expected in the west.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting a complex area of low pressure will develop in the cold air behind the front on Thursday and move over Tasmania during Thursday morning.
Rain is predicted statewide on Thursday with the south and east hit the hardest. Snow to 900 metres is predicted for the west on Thursday morning.
Several lows are expected to move towards the northeast of the state of Friday, maintaining a very strong and moist southeasterly stream.
Rain is again predicted statewide on Friday, with possible heavy falls in the south and east.
Conditions are expected to slowly improve on Saturday.

Thursday: High chance of rain, partly cloudy. A minimum of five degrees and maximum of 14.
Friday: Very high chance of rain, cloudy. A minimum of five degrees and a maximum of 15.
Saturday: Very high chance of rain, cloudy. A minimum of seven degrees and a maximum of 16.
