“We didn’t understand and couldn’t speak to other people,” Mrs Rahimi said.
That was where the Women’s Friendship Group stepped in, which is a group consisting of women from different countries and Australian volunteers.
The Women’s Friendship Group celebrated its second anniversary on Monday by sharing a lunch.
Now three years after the move, Mrs Rahimi said she loved going to the group.
By sharing their culture and language between the two groups, Mrs Ramini said the experience helped her with English and make friends while learning about Australia.
Group volunteer Robyn Flittner said up to 40 women and 18 children could attend the regular catch ups.
“A lot of the women say they love to learn English,” Ms Flittner said.
The group collaborated with other organisations to create educational programs, she said.
