So when St Giles chief executive Ian Wright heard Tasmania’s Capital Chemist outlets were making a $5000 donation to the organisation’s Kids Can’t Wait Appeal, he was suitably impressed.
Mowbray Capital Chemist’s Brad Turner said eight stores across the state had collected gold coin donations from customers in exchange for a free Capital Chemist calendar.
“Most people were more than happy to donate - everyone knows St Giles so most people were really happy to give their money to a good cause,” Mr Turner said.
“We found some people offering $10 and giving much more than we were asking which was good.”
The Kids Can’t Wait appeal aims to raise $100,000 to help fund St Giles services.
Mr Wright said that with many families facing uncertainty over their eligibility for the NDIS, it was as important as ever for the Northern community to get behind the organisation.
“The thing that really motivates me about donations like this is that St Giles prides itself on the work it does for its community,” Mr Wright said.
“And when you see a group such as the Capital Chemist group do something like this, it just shows how valuable St Giles is and how it’s looked at by its community.
“It’s fantastic that the customers of this group see that in us as well.”
