Loyal subscribers for the past 30 of those years are Crystal Cleaning owners Tanya and Geoff Hann, for whom the paper represents not just a news source, but a daily ritual.
“We have the paper delivered at home every day,” Mrs Hann said.
“Geoffrey reads it for an extended period of time in the morning, I bring it to work, I flick through it at my desk, steal the crossword out of it and then I leave it for the customers to read throughout the day and our carpet cleaner takes it home to read at night.
“I’ve got one customer who comes in and because he likes to do the crossword, I give him a photocopy of the crossword and he does that so I can do it later at my leisure.”
The pair say their daily newspaper could reach go through ten sets of hands every day.
“She's a well-worn newspaper,” Mr Hann said.
“You might get five or six customers a day ripping through it, let alone the employees going through it.”
The Examiner released a special 175th anniversary publication on Wednesday.
