They brought the former students in to give them a tour around the now very different school, and show them their modern technical F1 project.
ZealTech Racing is a team of five year 9 students who are competing in the National F1 in Schools competition later this month.
The competition involves designing and manufacturing mini F1 cars and racing them.
They invited the former students as a way to reach out to the community, tell their story and research the school’s history.
Heinz Kruesmann and John Suitor were both students at Queechy in 1958 when it was an all-boys school.
That wasn’t the last they would see of the school, however, with Mr Kriesmann going on to become a teacher at the school in the 1990s, and Mr Suitor being the chairman of the school council around the same time.
“There were only three buildings when we were here, and one has since been demolished,” Mr Suitor said.
“We didn’t even have a gym and assemblies were held outside under the pine trees.”
Mr Kriesmann remembered being the whistle boy before there was an automatic bell between classes.
“It’s impressive to see these students be so self-motivated and confident with all this modern communications and techonology,” he said. “It’s a different world than when we were here.”
Three teams from Queechy will compete in the national F1 competition in Adelaide.
