The incident occurred about 10.30pm on Saturday.
No one was home at the time.
Detective Acting Inspector Bob Baker said police were working to establish a concrete motive, but one possibility is the owner of the home and the shooter clashed over a woman.
“It may be female related,” he said. “We haven’t got a clear motive established.”
The home was sprayed with shots from two guns – a shotgun and a low calibre weapon.
Of particular interest to police has been the driver of a light grey sedan spotted along nearby Dry Street around the same time of the incident.
Detective Acting Inspector Baker said a man who drives a car matching that description was spoken to by police on Monday.
“A person of interest has been spoken to and some items of evidentiary value are being examined,” he said.
“We’re following a particular line of inquiry.”
The home owner has also been interviewed.
An arrest had not been made on Monday afternoon.
Police will speak to a number of other people in the coming days, Detective Acting Inspector Baker said.
On Sunday, Inspector Gary Williams assured residents of the quiet narrow street that the incident would not become a regular occurrence in the neighbourhood.
The shooting is the third in the state’s North in the last 12 months.
