Since moving to Lanena, Whittle began noticing the beauty of Tasmania’s birds.
“My plan was to do my next show about the river but the bird life here was so amazing that I just decided to do birds,” Whittle said.
Originally inspired by the river, he quickly realised the focal point of his art had become the feathered beauties.
A striking collection of watercolour and oil paintings, the exhibition depicts native birds and those known to commonly visit the state.
“Everything that I have been painting is what is around me,” Whittle said.
His neighbours apple tree was a popular hangout for the birds and Whittle said he would paint them in the tree.
Usually Whittle would create exotic elements within his images but One For the Birds represented the animals in their natural environment.
Normally, Whittle would play with his photos in photoshop to add romantic backgrounds to his subject but that natural beauty of his surroundings has allowed him to replicate the original image he captured.
“I find that there are a lot of birds around now, and once you start to look at Tasmanian birds, I found that they are amazing,” Whittle said.
