Two years ago, John Fenech, of Burnie, lost his fight with brain cancer.
Motivated by his memory, the Walk for John campaign was born and a party of five set out on a 243-kilometre walk from one end of the state to the other.
They have now raised more than $60,000 for John Opie House, an organisation that works to provide low-cost accommodation for patients and families who need to stay close to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
Throughout Mr Fenech's treatment, his family travelled regularly to Hobart to support him while he underwent treatment and were able to make themselves at home for a small cost.
After his death, Mr Fenech's family organised the six-day walk from Burnie to the John Opie House in Hobart.
Mr Fenech's son Ty arrived in Launceston on Thursday having completed the 18-kilometre walk from Carrick.
"John Opie House was a saviour for us because it gets fairly expensive staying in hotels," Ty said.
"On a personal level, this is a good thing to do in Dad's memory."
Over the next few days, the group will walk to Campbell Town and Glenorchy before arriving at their ultimate destination on Sunday.
Thanks to the support of Tasmanian Coles supermarkets, sausage sizzles, cake stalls, trivia nights and raffles have been organised to support the cause.
Donations to the campaign can be made at Coles' registers and $2 tokens can be purchased until October 13.
