THE Bureau of Meteorology has cancelled a severe weather warning for most of Tasmania.

The Bureau issued the warning on Friday afternoon.
In a statement, the Bureau predicted damaging winds for the North West Coast, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts.
A cold front crossed Tasmania from the west on Saturday, but it has since shifted east.
``The Severe Weather Warning for the Furneaux Islands, North West Coast, Western, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts has been cancelled, but the situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary,'' the Bureau's statement read.
``In the past 6 hours the following wind gusts have been recorded: 135 km/h at Maatsuyker Island, 130 km/h at Mt Wellington, 120 km/h at Scotts Peak, 115 km/h at Low Rocky Point and 102 km/h at Hobart.''
The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:
- Supervise children closely
- Do not walk, ride or drive through flood waters
- Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving
- Listen to the ABC radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice
