The male rider of the black Honda CBR600F hit the right rear passenger side of a white Magna sedan about 9.10pm, police said.
Launceston Acting Sergeant Steve Ockerby said the rider was travelling north-east towards Lilydale and overtook the sedan while it was turning into a driveway.
The crash occurred about 300 metres from the George Town Road junction.
Acting Sergeant Ockerby said the motorcyclist’s speed was believed to be a factor in the crash and would be assessed during investigations.
The rider was taken to the Launceston General Hospital with facial injuries in a serious but stable condition.
Acting Sergeant Ockerby said the female driver of the sedan and her daughter were also taken to the LGH as a precaution.
‘‘Blood will be obtained from the driver and the rider to be screened for drugs and alcohol as a matter of caution,’’ he said.
Acting Sergeant Ockerby said the motorbike received extensive damage and there was moderate damage to the sedan.
He said no charges had been laid.
One lane of Lilydale Road was closed while police continued investigations.
