Distraught family and friends flocked to the Beaconsfield crash site yesterday after news of the death filtered through the small community.
The 47-year-old had been riding along residential Margaret Street about 11am when his Honda 600cc motorbike collided with a Holden utility.
The man was in cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived, but their prolonged efforts to revive him were unsuccessful.
The bike's speed may have played a role in the crash, police said.
Senior Sergeant Chris Parr said it appeared the bike struck the ute as it was reversing into a driveway.
The 77-year-old utility driver was badly shaken, but did not suffer any injuries.
The death follows a fatal crash on Saturday when a 58-year-old man died after his bike crashed on the Brooker Highway at Claremont.
His 17-year-old female passenger, who was injured in the single-vehicle crash, remains in a stable condition at the Royal Hobart Hospital.
The pair had earlier taken part in the charity motorcycle Toy Run event, police said.
Last year's Toy Run was also marked with tragedy when motorcyclist Kim Dougan was killed at Conara on her way to the charity bash.
However, Toy Run organisers have been keen to point out that both fatalities occurred outside of the event, which has safety protocols, including a police presence.
The weekend's fatalities bring this year's state road toll to 32 deaths, the highest since 2009 according to figures from the Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources.
The number of motorcycle deaths now stands at eight, with half of those occurring in the past month.
Senior Sergeant Parr said police were investigating whether rain played a part in yesterday's crash.
``Like with all drivers, when weather conditions and road conditions change you've just got to be careful,'' he said.
He said the man had been a long-term resident of Beaconsfield.
It was too early in the investigation to consider whether any charges would be laid, he said.
Beaconsfield's State Emergency Service crew also attended the scene.
Police are investigating both crashes and have asked for any witnesses to contact them.
Reports will be prepared for the coroner.
