"So animals and birds have homes," Dominique Cotterill said.
"To keep their habitat. The trees help us breathe," 10-year-old Eleanor Lamprey said.
Phil Hedditch, of Latrobe Landcare, said that at least three schools had been invited to plant the 100 trees along old weir on Bells Parade.
