A man in his 90s with COVID-19 has died in Tasmania's south, bringing the state's COVID-related deaths to 70 since the pandemic began.

Alongside the death, the Department of Health has reported 782 new cases in the last 24 hours, adding that 834 people have recovered and been released from isolation in that time.
The man's death follows on from the two deaths reported on Thursday, both of whom were aged above 80.
The total number of active cases in the state currently stands at 6256.
There are currently 47 people in hospital with COVID, with 25 being treated specifically for COVID and one person in the ICU.
Following the news, Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockcliff reiterated that the number of daily positive cases had stabilised over the last month after cases peaked in April.

"Although we continue to see some daily fluctuations, the seven-day average has been consistently around 1000 cases per day since the start of May, which is an encouraging sign," he said.
He went on to urge Tasmanians to "roll up your sleeves and get vaccinated when you are due".
"If you haven't already, make a booking with one of the many providers across the state and get your vaccination as soon as possible," he said.
