The summit is talking through the economic shifts our world has been going through, which have implications in every part of our lives, and have only been amplified during COVID-19.
For many years, there has been concern around the displacement of jobs due to technology, rising income inequality, social challenges and much more.
IN OTHER NEWS:
As we come out of the COVID-19 restrictions, we need to reset the direction for our state and our world to become more inclusive, fairer and more sustainable - and the Jobs Reset discussion is focused on this.
We have to mobile the best capabilities, technologies, innovative approaches and collective action to be in the best possible position for the future.
For us in the Launceston Global Shapers Hub, we're staying up late every single night to join the discussions that are occurring on the other side of the world, because we know that here in Tasmania, we need this happening in our state.
We have inequalities, divides and economic challenges that affect all aspects of our lives, and Tasmania needs to embrace the Jobs Reset focus.
But we can't wait to take action.
There are so many discussions about economic shifts, even teaching relevant skills, that we are preparing for what is coming next.
The strategy is looking at bringing resilience into our economy into the future, preparing for what could be around the corner - as much as it is hard to predict future economic shifts.
Tasmania needs action to happen now.
We cannot keep having discussions around what we can do for the future - we need action for today. We cannot keep thinking about preparing for the future that is going to come, but we have to think about how people can take steps immediately to help make our economy more resilient.
Even when we look at young people at school and teaching relevant skills - we cannot look at those skills helping them into the future, they need to be skills that can be actioned right now.
We all know that Tasmanians can make opportunities turn into successes - whether it is starting new business ideas, adapting services, or even jumping in and helping the business lead change.
This is beyond our COVID-19 response we are going to implement help lift our economy, but we need to make this change right now.
There is no more time for preparation for the future - we need to act for those in Tasmania right now. Let's embrace a more socially inclusive and innovative community that aligns with the Jobs Reset agenda - but one where Tasmania leads the world.
