Dorset Council Mayor Greg Howard said he discussed the closure of the trails with Premier Peter Gutwein this morning and came to the decision they should be shut.

"It makes sense given there were quite a few bookings for Derby for Easter and we don't want people to congregate in one spot," he said.

The move comes after Prime Minister Scott Morrison implored Australians to cancel all non-essential domestic travel.
Cr Howard said the trails would be closed as soon as logistically possible.
