A police road safety operation has caught motorists speeding through roadworks on the Midland Highway.

25 people were found to be speeding in the area over the course of two hours with many found to be within metres of road workers.
Campbell Town Police Constable Chris Jackson said motorists not slowing down for road works are putting people at risk.

"No one deserves to be put at risk at work because drivers don't want to slow down at road works," Constable Jackson said.
"It's not worth risking someone's life to save a couple of minutes."
Police operations targeting motorists speeding through road works will continue along the Bass and Midland Highways.
