Kurt Jenkins, 27, suffered a permanent leg injury when he was allegedly shot by Jacob Adam Williams, 28, while Marcus John Williams, 33, was accused of threatening Mr Jenkins with a gun.

The two men are standing trial in the Supreme Court in Launceston this week in relation to the shooting on January 11.

Jacob Williams had formed the mistaken belief that Mr Jenkins was responsible for a home invasion two days earlier in which a woman and child had petrol poured on them. The woman told the court she had limited recollection of the incident and its aftermath.

Mr Jenkins alleged that Jacob Williams held a gun to the back of his head, while Marcus Williams was also armed, in the car park of McDonald's South Launceston and forced him to drive to a Pinkard Street address so he could be identified in relation to the earlier home invasion.

But when they arrived at the house, a woman was brought to the car who allegedly said "it's not him".

Mr Jenkins told the court Jacob Williams then attempted to push him from the driver's seat so he could drive.

"I pushed Jake's hand away twice, that's when he pulled the gun out and shot me in the leg," he said.

"Once I was shot I remember I fell out of the car.

"Jacob ran down and jumped in the white car and Marcus ran up the street."

A bullet was later found on the floor of Mr Jenkins' car, but he denied it belonged to him, despite sustained questioning under cross-examination.

Lawyers for Jacob and Marcus Williams - who are not related - assert that Mr Jenkins was the only person armed and he shot himself in the leg while wrestling with Jacob Williams.

"Today is the first time I've heard that I pushed the gun down on my own leg," Mr Jenkins said.

The trial continues.
