The $3.5 million project will upgrade the playing surface and improve drainage.
Works are underway on installing new fencing around the ground, followed by reinstating the perimeter LED panels, the council's general manager Michael Stretton said.

"The installation of the new playing surface will begin later this month and the project is still expected to be completed by mid-November," he said.
"We expect the project to be complete well before the first Big Bash League game of the upcoming season. The contractors have done an excellent job managing the project to the deadline."
It is the first upgrade of the field in more than 20 years, with hopes this one lasts another two decades.
The old turf will be used as top soil to bury waste at the Launceston tip at Mowbray.
