The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare released its most recent annual report on national health expenditure on Wednesday.

In 2017-18, $1.61 billion was spent in Tasmanian hospitals, $1.41 billion on primary health care and $270 million on capital expenditure.

The federal government spent $1.75 billion on health in the state and the Tasmanian Government, with local government, spent $1.02 billion.

Non-government sources spent $180 million.

Twice as much money was spent on health in 2017-18 than in 2005-06.

A total of $1944.34 was spent on health broadly per capita last financial year.

Nationwide, total health expenditure in 2017-18 was $185.4 billion.

Spending on hospitals was $74 billion.
