Cr Kieser was announced as mayor after claiming 55.93 per cent of votes. He said he was excited by the decision.
"I'm incredibly excited to get work underway on what I believe is a direction that will benefit the entire community and will help George build a balanced and diversified economy that will complement our current industrial capacity," Cr Kieser said.
Cr Kieser narrowly lost to then George Town mayor Bridget Archer during the 2018 local government elections.
The George Town byelection was called when Ms Archer was elected to represent the Federal seat of Bass.
However, Cr Kieser emerged victorious in his second running for mayor defeating fellow councillors Tim Harris and Chris Barraclough.
In other news:
"I don't think I took anything for granted, I was running against two very credible and highly capable opponents so I knew that I had my work cut out for me," Cr Kieser said.
"Both Councillors Harris and Barraclough are highly capable and I believe they could have done the role.
"It's been something I've had to work at over the course of the campaign but nonetheless I'm delighted by the result."
George Town projects like the Mountain Bike Trail and Regent's Square development are just the beginning of what the region can achieve according to Cr Kieser.
"We've definitely got some momentum behind us and there's a general air of excitement in the community but those projects in themselves, although they are substantial and will make a difference, are ones that will just underpin what we need to yet achieve in making that goal a reality," he said.
"We will make George Town a destination in its own right so that tourists can come here. There's lots to do, there's so much going for us and that's really what the charter is: just play to our strengths so we can deliver an outcome for the people of the George Town municipality."
The community is raising funds for four local charities as part of The Examiner's Winter Relief Appeal. Can you help?
