City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said it was fantastic to see the redeveloped Cataract Gorge play space completed.
"The former play space on this site was well overdue for replacement," Cr van Zetten said.
"[It was] Regularly impacted by floods and sited at the bottom of a retaining wall which did not make it an easily accessible or a visually appealing play area."
The space includes the usual slides, swings but also includes a large sand area with artificial stream and a large wooden mouse wheel for kids.

Cr van Zetten said over the recent months about 4000 cubic metres of gravel, nearly 100 tonnes worth of boulders and about 3000 square metres of turf were brought into the park for the place space.
"Extensive earthworks and compaction has been undertaken to create a gentle slope from the level of the First Basin cafe building down to the lawn area," Cr van Zetten said.
"Which will make is easier to access and less prone to flood damage."
Trees have also been planted in the area, Cr van Zetten said they will provide plenty of shade once full grown.
The place space started planning and development in late 2017.
