A man accused of raping and assaulting his partner told police he smoked ice four times during the days the incidents allegedly happened, a jury has heard.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has pleaded not guilty to rape and three counts of assault.
The jury was played the accused's police interview on the second day of the Launceston Supreme Court trial.
The interview was conducted on February 2, 2018, which was two days after the last alleged assault.

When asked to recall what happened between himself and his partner in the preceding days, the accused said he got out of Missiondale, went home and "got on the gear" with his partner and they had a "good night".
The next morning a friend of the accused visited their house and "couldn't even look at him", he told police.
The accused said he asked his partner "what's the go there" and she thought he was insinuating she'd had sex with his friend.
"She was going off her head," he said.
"I just wanted to know why he couldn't look at me in the eyes."
But contradicting evidence was heard by the court when the alleged victim took the stand on Wednesday.
She said her partner accused her of having an affair with his friend immediately after the man left their house.
During her evidence, the woman detailed days of being punched, choked and screamed at by her partner.
Allegations made by the woman about her partner of 15 years were put to the accused during his police interview.
He was asked about punching and choking his partner on three separate occasions, as well as putting his finger in her vagina to "check if someone had been in there".
The accused told police he didn't touch the alleged victim.
"I haven't hurt her," he said.
For majority of the 80-minute interview the accused denied calling the woman a s--- and dirty whore, but towards the very end admitted he "may have".
Police also asked the accused if it was possible he was confused about details because he admitted he smoked so much ice he had hallucinations, but the man said he wasn't.
The Launceston Supreme Court trial is before Justice Robert Pearce and will continue on Friday.
