After bowling the Blues out for a sub-par 86 in 42 overs, the Knights piled on 5-158 to take a 72-run lead into the second day with James Lee (36) and captain Tom Waller (33) still unbeaten at the crease.
The Knights’ dominance began early in the day, with Riverside slumping to 7-51 inside the first session thanks to four-wicket hauls to Ben Jackson (4-25) and Jackson Young (4-30).
Tailender Tom Lewis again top-scored with 21, while Lyndon Stubbs and Josh Partridge both made 11.
Stubbs (4-31) then starred with the ball, bowling openers Brodie Jarrad and Sean Harris for one each and trapping Jeremy Jackson for eight to replicate the Blues’ earlier scoreline of 3-22.
But the Knights weren’t to be tamed as Lee made up for spilling the simplest of catches in the field by contributing to two 50-run stands – one with the in-form Nathan Philip (61) and another with Waller - to lead the Knights into a commanding position.
“It’s a pretty good day’s cricket for us,” Waller said.
“Benny Jackson really got a lot out of the wicket, he was pretty full in how he bowled and really disciplined, same as Jackson.
“They bowled some really good deliveries and there was probably a bit in the wicket early.”
The other round 14 clash between Westbury and Mowbray will get under way on Sunday.
