The group consists of 10 members from grade 5 and 6, all of whom are girls.
“Being able to code is an important future skill for all our students really, particularly girls that are looking to enter this field,” St Thomas More’s assistant principal Kurt Atkins said.
The pupils were tasked with working on solutions to space related challenges.
The team decided that space junk was the issue they would tackle.
Grade 5 pupil Ella Webber had never done coding before, but said she was excited to learn more about it.
“We studied space debris and we came up with some problems and solutions for issues about space debris,” she said.
The pupils were championed based on their excellence in Lego robotics programming, project design and sportsmanship.
The girls are very excited for the national championship, which is on December 8-9 in Sydney.
The girls are being supported by numerous groups, including TheMac Shop Launceston.
A GoFundMe page has been set up for those who wish to support the pupil’s trip to Sydney.
