As one of the biggest fundarisers for the year RSPCA Tasmania has set its target at $40,000.
All funds raised in Tasmania go towards supporting the work of the local inspectorate team and assisting animals in need in the three Animal Care Centres.
RSPCA Tasmania chief executive Peter West said cupcakes were a sometimes food not an all-the-time food so it’s something the community can get behind.
“Last year RSPCA helped 10,000 animals across the state and 4,200 of those were in our three animal care centres and 5,800 of those were through individual animal cruelty cases,” he said.
“Things like Million Paws Walk, Cupcake Day and quiz nights all help to do the things that we do.
“There is a misconception with some in the community that the RSPCA has a big slush fun … but that’s not true. We are a not for profit charity and we have no profit, these things really do help us survive.
The RSPCA has 50 staff, totaling 38 fulltime equivalent roles, and more than 200 volunteers within the organisation.
“We operate the three animal care centres, we’ve got three offices for our inspectorates, two head offices - one in Hobart, one in Launceston - it is an operation that is seven days a week, 365 days a year and it is really important,” Mr West said.
“We also sit down at the table with ministers and mayors and the people who make decision about animal laws and how to make the lives of animals better and we prosecute the case for animals.”
In 2016, 211 hosts helped bake cupcakes to raise money and to beat last year’s efforts RSPCA Tasmania is calling for hosts to register their interest as soon as possible.
The official website www.rspcacupcakeday.com.au allows interested people to register and download useful tools to assist in their fundraising efforts.
Members of the community are invited to participate at home, at their school, workplace or community centre.
