Foods for Dudes owner Ben Chapman said there was a need to sensibly develop the area on High Street alongside the city’s new food van culture.
“It's a place of beauty, relaxation and great food. The ability for food vendors to trade here is a great step forward in improving and bringing Launceston forward,” he said. “[It] is perfect apart from the small issue of public toilets that affects families with young children.”
East Launceston resident Kyle Barrett said some of the other issues he witnessed included lack of seating, an increase in rubbish and a need for more luscious grass for evening picnics.
“St George Square has changed from an underutilised public space to one of Launceston’s most popular parks,” he said.
Mr Barrett said a group would be established to advocate for improvements.
Vendors have already discussed a potential joint crowd-funding model to help fund the infrastructure but Mr Chapman hoped the council might get on board.
