Ms Giddings sponsored the Voluntary Assisted Dying Bill with former Greens leader Senator Nick McKim in 2013.
An e-petition aiming calling for the legalisation of voluntary euthanasia has been launched.
The petition honours the wishes of Grindelwald resident and euthanasia advocate Helena Lettau.
Ms O'Connor said proposed legislation would give "choices to patients, protection to doctors and clarity around rights and responsibilities of the people involved".
"In 2013, an EMRS survey showed 80 per cent of Tasmanians supported voluntary assisted dying," Ms O'Connor said.
"It's time for our parliamentarians to catch up the views of the broader society."
