Organiser Andrew Palmer said everything was going to plan at the Tasmanian Open DanceSport Championships, and that the finals events were expected to run until 10.30pm last night.
Twelve-year-old Jaxon Putlane and 13-year-old Yianna Leyton came from Victoria to take part in the championships. The students of dance studio MarShere in Fern Tree Gully said they performed seven different dances over five events.
Yianna and Jaxon ended yesterday’s competition with three second places.
The pair have won their division in the Australian championships for the past two years, and hope to make it three in a row when the competition is held again in December.
Dancing is a family affair for the pair. Jaxon’s parents are past Australian champions, while Yianna said she decided to join in when her sisters started ballroom dancing.
The pair train between four and six hours a week.
