Bob Katter has dressed up as the grim reaper outside parliament in Canberra to protest the closure of Holden in Australia. On Thursday morning the federal member for Kennedy held up a scythe and signs that read "Free Market = Aust's car crash" and "Holden on to Aussie jobs" while watching a parade of classic Holden vehicles drive past Parliament House. Mr Katter said he was introducing a motion in the House of Representatives today calling on Australia to support the re-establishment of an Australian car manufacturing industry with a majority Australian shareholding and ensure that all cars purchased by the Federal Government are made in Australia. "The Government is in control of which industries live and which industries die," Mr Katter said. "If every government car was built in Australia, Holden would be in a very different position today." In February General Motors announced it was shutting down its Holden brand and focus its efforts in other countries, unwilling to invest the necessary cash to ensure its ongoing viability.
