"Salmon is the lifeblood of our West Coast community and Ms Lambie's comments are incredibly concerning," Cr Pitt said.
"This is no joke.
"There are hundreds of jobs on the line here and Ms Lambie owes us an explanation.
"It is unacceptable for her to play politics with what allows West Coast families to put food on the table, a roof over their head and their kids through school.
"I am seeking an urgent meeting with Ms Lambie so she can clarify her position."
The salmon industry's future in Macquarie Harbour is uncertain, with a federal review under way.
Cr Pitt fired up after Senator Lambie said Tasmanian salmon's reputation was not what it was, and she was worried that was affecting the state's global food brand.
She said there was clearly a problem with salmon farms and the industry would close if the companies did not lift their game.
" ... then what happens to those families that depend on the salmon industry for income?" she said.
"I am really worried about communities like Strahan who have a lot of workers in the salmon industry.
"Every job is important, especially in our smaller towns."
Senator Lambie said the major parties loved putting all their eggs in one basket.
"We see it time and again," she said.
"What about the other opportunities for development and jobs?
"Look at Queenstown; the Mount Lyell mine has been mothballed for 10 years.
"What are the Liberals doing about that?"
The Jacqui Lambie Network is running candidates in the March 23 state election, with polling suggesting they are a good chance of getting some elected.
Senator Lambie's response to Cr Pitt's demand for a meeting is being sought.
