Tasmanian Government, AFL and Tasmanian Football Club representatives unanimously selected the site as its preferred location on Thursday, December 22.
The $70 million site will serve as the base for Tasmania's AFL team as well as the state's AFLW, VFL and VFLW programs.
The site, owned by the Clarence City Council, will also offer state-of-the-art facilities for coaching, administrative and support staff alongside a secondary oval at the adjacent Charles Hand Park.
Listed as a requirement to support the state's AFL licence, the site was selected based on its "highly visible central location".
Minister for Stadia and Events Nic Street said the government will now shift its focus to the next phase of the process.
"We're confident players and staff will embrace this location. It is close to the city and the airport, has great amenities nearby and will make the team highly visible," Minister Street said.
"We will now immediately move to the next phase of this process which is to commence discussions on a Heads of Agreement with the Clarence City Council."
The Rosny-based site was chosen over Kingborough's Twin Ovals location.
At this stage, the government has committed $60 million toward the high performance facility with the AFL offering an additional $10 million.
