He scored the first hat-trick of his career as United romped to a 6-0 victory over Perth Glory before beating Macarthur FC 2-0 in April 2022.
"That morning, I said to Ryan Scott, my roommate, 'I feel something special today'," Wales said of the Perth clash.
"It was just one of those games where everything I touched went in and it was a top result for the team as well winning 6-0."
United are back in Launceston this week for their round 17 clash against Wellington Phoenix on Friday at 7.45pm at UTAS Stadium.
Last year's Launnie triumphs proved pivotal as United went on to win the championship.
Wales said Friday's match would be crucial with Western trying to turn their season around.
They sit 11th on the table with four wins, four draws and eight losses.
The forward, who pointed to United's impressive winning record in Tasmania, elaborated on why they play well at UTAS Stadium.
"Especially in football, you need a good surface and it's been a top surface and even after the game you're not pulling up as sore," he said.
"The ground is not as hard as some of the grounds in Melbourne.
"It's massive for us players to have good facilities like that. And for us at Western United, we get a good crowd every time we go to Tassie."
The 25-year-old spoke highly of his former Melbourne City teammate and Riverside Olympic product Nathaniel Atkinson.
They played for the Olyroos at the Tokyo Olympics and lived together for two years.
"I had moved away from my family and he'd been in Melbourne for a couple of years and we just had a lot of similarities in our lives," Wales said.
"We were from humble upbringings and from small towns and we got along from day one.
"We're still such close mates, we FaceTime over the phone with him in Scotland. I don't know how he's going with the cold weather over there.
"He's a great bloke and someone I could relate to coming from a small town and we ended up having a good friendship."
Wales said it was a thrill to watch Atkinson represent Australia at last year's World Cup.
"He played against (France's) Kylian Mbappé - what an experience for him." he said.
"I know he's a bit disappointed with how it went. But I said to him, 'Mbappé scored three in the final of the World Cup so you're going all right if he only scored one against you'.
"It's surprising because Nat's real quick so 'Mbappé must be that fast."
Wales said he would love to play for the Socceroos in the future.
"At the end of last year, I was named in a few squads that were the larger squads that get cut down," he said.
"After playing for the Olyroos and last year winning the championship in the A-League, you always want to strive to play for the Socceroos.
"This season it's been challenging and difficult, not only for the team but myself as well.
"You're not quite playing the way you want to play as the team is not winning. So I'm fully concentrated on Western at the moment and of course have ambitions to play overseas and play for the Socceroos and if I can play good football here that'll really help me get to that level."
