The Australian Bureau of Statistics estimated payroll jobs in the state grew by that percentage in the year to July 16, as the state continued its recovery from the 2020 coronavirus crash that threw thousands of Tasmanians out of work.

All states and territories had solid payroll jobs growth during the year, with national payroll jobs up by 4.5 per cent.

Tasmanian payroll jobs increased by a nation topping 1 per cent between June 18 and July 2, but fell by 1.2 per cent in the fortnight to July 16.

That was likely to be influenced by the timing of school holidays, which were in the second and third weeks of July.

Coronavirus-linked absences from work would likely also have played a role.

Speaking about the national figures, ABS head of labour statistics Bjorn Jarvis said: " "While some of the fall in payroll jobs over late June and into early July reflects the seasonal influence of school holidays on the labour market, together with end of financial year seasonality in payroll reporting, it also covers a period with increasing employee absences from COVID and other illnesses."

The payroll figures are separate to the ABS' more established labour force series.

That estimated the state had 3000 more employed people in June than in June 2021, in seasonally adjusted terms.

State Treasurer Michael Ferguson said there were more than 29,000 more people in jobs compared to when the government was first elected in March 2014.

"Unemployment is very low at 4.3 per cent, and full-time employment remains at very strong levels, with 169,800 full time jobs in June, which is 9300 more than a year ago," Mr Ferguson said.

"Importantly, female employment in June 2022 was 126,400 people, which is 2700 more than the same time last year.

"We're in a situation where instead of people looking for jobs, now jobs are looking for people."

Shadow Treasurer Shane Broad noted wages growth remained well below increases in the cost of living.

"When Tasmanians' wages are not keeping up with the rising cost of living, it is clear that the Liberal government isn't getting the basics right," Dr Broad said.

"Tasmanians are struggling.

"We see it every day when we are out talking to the community and businesses.

"The government should lift wages by paying essential public sector workers like nurses properly, and it should help with the cost of living by backing Labor's plan to cap power prices."
