
A gun-wielding man held up a Youngtown business while wearing a motorbike helmet in a brazen Monday night armed robbery before running off.
A small amount of cash was stolen during the robbery of the Hobart Road shop before the robber took off on foot.
The incident came just over two months after Tasmania Police revealed a firearm taskforce in Launceston had resulted in the seizure of 60 guns and saw 266 charges laid.
The last reported incident of firearm crime in Launceston happened on July 25 on a residential street at Norwood when shots were fired at a home.
It was understood the business was equipped with 24 CCTV cameras and footage showed the robbery occurring.
The footage showed the man enter the business without the helmet on before putting it on as he approached the service desk.
Tasmania Police is now investigating the armed robbery which occurred about 7.55pm.
A police spokesperson said the man was last seen fleeing the scene along Highgate Street at Youngtown, which joins onto Hobart Road.
Police are calling for anyone who may have seen a man in the area about 8pm wearing a dark motorbike helmet or riding a motorbike at speed.
